BTEC Information technology - level 3

The Department for Education is still due to approve Information Technology courses at the time of writing. As a result, we are unable to provide specific information about the units/topics students would study. Below is course content from the previous approved IT course students completed here.

BTEC National Level 3 (AAQ)

The Single Award course for Information Technology consists of four units and is equivalent to an A-Level at the end of Year 13.

Course Content

Currently studied in Year 12:

Unit 1: Information Technology Systems

This unit covers the role of Information Technology (IT) systems and the implications

of their use in personal and professional situations. Students gain knowledge and

understanding of issues relating to the use of IT in personal and professional situations.

Unit 3: Website Development

You will learn the principles surrounding interface design, and factors affecting website performance. Students gain skills to build interactive webpages, learning basic HTML,

JavaScript and CSS. They create web pages, putting these skills into practice.

Currently studied in Year 13:

Unit 2: Cyber Security and Incident Management

This unit covers cyber security threats and vulnerabilities, the methods used to protect

organisations against threats and managing security incidents.

Unit 4: Relational Database Development

During this unit you will learn how to research, design and build fully functioning database

systems using Microsoft Access.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment includes a range of teacher assessed exam board set tasks, and written exams.
