Key Stage 4
All students will follow the new Pearson Edexcel GCSE (first examination summer 2026). This will test their ability in Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, with final examination in all skill areas and 25% of marks awarded in each skill area. The exam aims to encourage pupils to feel success in their language learning whilst also examining some key linguistic skills such as reading aloud, dictation and role play scenarios.
The course will cover the following thematic contexts:
- My personal world (family, friends, relationships and equality)
- Lifestyle and wellbeing (physical and mental well-being, food and drink, sports)
- My neighbourhood (places in town, shopping, the natural world and environmental issues)
- Media and technology (music, TV, film, social media and gaming)
- Studying and my future (school and future opportunities)
- Travel and tourism (transport, accommodation and tourist attractions)
To improve pupils’ linguistic experience the Languages team are also offering students in Year 10 the opportunity to take part in German, French and Spanish trips. We will also use the Pearson Edexcel course book, supported by an online platform called ActiveHub, which will enable students to practise their reading and listening skills at home. Year 11 students are also provided with a vocabulary revision guide to ensure they are confident in their understanding and recall of the core vocab lists for the course.
