Easter Surprise for Local Senior Citizens

After the successful Christmas hampers, our Sixth Form Student Union and volunteers once again brought smiles to the local senior citizens who joined SWCHS’ Sixth Form buddy programme, by delivering a surprise Easter greetings card and an Easter egg.

Last year, SWCHS Student Union set up a programme whereby every Sixth Form student volunteer paired up with a usual attendee of the annual Christmas party for local retired citizens. This involved students ringing their buddy once a week for a friendly chat during the lockdown period. Relationships formed within the programme have been beneficial to both the students and their buddy.  Due to the success of the programme, we plan to continue this throughout the year.

Over 100 Easter eggs were purchased, and we would like to thank Tesco’s Saffron Walden for their donation of a dozen eggs towards this cause.

‘The Senior Citizens Support Programme has been a huge success and a great way to give back to our local community. I have formed a great relationship with my buddy Rosemary and I thoroughly enjoy our weekly conversations. I find it not only interesting but very rewarding’.
