Diversity Day

Students celebrated diversity through workshops and bespoke sessions focusing on protected characteristics during SWCHS Diversity Day this week.

Year 7 looked at LGBTQIA+ through Art, Maths, Drama and English sessions led by subject specialist teachers. Year 8 looked at Race through Music, MFL, a session from TIC Box Theatre Production and external speakers Andrew Jackson and Kieren Lock. Year 9 looked at Disabilities through Science, Design & Technology, and sessions with both the SEND Department and PE.  In PE, students were able to meet George Peasgood, SWCHS alumni and Paralympian Athlete, and share his experiences and achievements including his medals won during 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Year 10 students visited Cambridge Central Mosque, St Phillip's Church and Zion Baptist Church on Mill Road in Cambridge.  Students explored the places of worship and participated in tours and presentations at each venue. In Geography, Computing and English sessions led by subject specialists, Year 11 focused on the protected characteristic - Sex.

The students had a fantastic day and were able to reflect on their experiences with their form tutor at the end of the day.

We would like to thank the British and Foreign School Society for their generous funding grant that made our first lower school Diversity Day possible.
