SWCHS OFSTED report 2012

The inspectors have graded the school as outstanding in every category.
Everyone at SWCHS is absolutely delighted with the inspector’s findings. Throughout the report there are very many pleasing comments which reflect the improvement in standards that we have seen in recent years. These improvements have been driven by a passion for excellence and a determination to do everything we can to ensure each pupil fulfils his or her academic potential. Two comments in particular illustrate our key objective of raising standards: the inspectors found that “all teachers have consistently high expectations for all students” and later on in the report: “….the pursuit of excellence is a theme that runs throughout the school”.
As we have already told them, our students were a credit to the school and themselves. It was a potentially difficult stage of the term as the inspection coincided with Year 11’s last two days before study leave. However, students in all year groups responded magnificently, both in terms of their enthusiasm for learning in lessons and in what the report describes as their exemplary behaviour around the school.
In recent times we have emphasised that our aim is to educate students so that not only do they acquire an excellent set of examination results but that they also leave SWCHS with the ability to be enthusiastic and skilled independent learners. It is therefore exceptionally pleasing that our students are described as “passionate ….and fully committed to their learning” as well as “having extremely good independent learning skills”. The students also deserve great praise for the polite and courteous way in which they presented themselves, whilst at the same time clearly being young people with ideas and opinions of their own. They left the inspectors in no doubt about how proud they were to be students of SWCHS, and the extent to which they enjoy their days at school and feel happy, safe and secure. We as a staff were very proud of them.
The inspectors just identified one area for us to address: to raise further the quality of written feedback provided for pupils. This is something we will be working on in the coming months.
Finally may we say how pleased we were to hear from the inspectors the very positive feedback and comments which so many parents gave to the inspection team. We would like to thank you all for your continuing support as together, we seek to provide the best possible education for our pupils and your children.
